New Medals for the Military
(Apologies to all 'civvies' if this doesn't quite
stimulate your funny
bone. Trust us, this one is a real rib-tickler, especially to members who are/were
serving members of the Canadian Forces. See the bottom of the page for
some explanations)

UN - United Nations. Many CF members get repeat 'opportunities' to serve on many six-month tours away from home as Peacekeepers.
CD - short form for the Canadian Forces Decoration, awarded for 12 years of good service to the military. Unlike our friends to the south (USA), many CF members have only one or two medals to wear, the CD generally being one of them. (Peacekeepers being the exception).
NDHQ, CHQ, GHQ - National Defence Headquarters, Command Headquarters, Group Headquarters
Cpl/Capt - Corporal or Captain. Many members of the CF retire at one of these two ranks. They are the 'working ranks' for the non-commisioned and the commisioned members of the Forces.
DUI - Driving Under the Influence (aka 'Tanked', 'Loaded', Gooned, you get the picture....)
Career Manager - the NDHQ senior person in your trade who controls your career path and postings in the military. You always pray that it's not someone with a good memory that you really pissed off at sometime in the past.
FRP - Short for the Forces Reduction Programme that was implemented a couple of times during the 80's and 90's as a quick way to reduce personnel numbers in the CF by offering substantial departure bonuses to thousands of members. When they finally figured out that they'd gone too far with the cuts, some 'retirees' were courted back and actually re-enrolled in the CF, and profited handsomely from the experience.
