National Director
Jamie again recognized the retirement of George Hopp from the National Executive at the last meeting.  He reiterated the valuable contribution he made to the organization and showed off a plaque that will be presented to George in the near future.

Jamie formally welcomed Debbie Lutz to the National Executive.  Debbie’s job will be crucial to the future of the organization; she will be working with John MacDonald to bring our steam-powered membership database into 20th century technology, and if the good Lord’s willing and the river don’t rise, into the new millennium.

The town of Beaver, England (no, really!), wants to use our very own IPMS Canada ‘Sweating Beaver’ as part of the logo for this fine town.  Provided proper accreditation is given for its use, our blessing was given to the Beaver colony for this plan.

RT Editor

There will be an RT stuffing session on 26 Feb, at the Nepean Museum.

Keith’s Press in Stittsville was very slow getting this latest issue of RT produced; this is about one month behind what we normally expect from them.

Since the RT Editor is no longer a resident of Stittsville, it was suggested that we take another look at other printing options for the magazine.  The aim is for higher printing quality at a more convenient location

Jean Gratton knows a guy who knows a guy in the printing business and he will be contacting him for suggestions.

The Editor is still trying to screw down the various retailers to get an external CD‑burner at the lowest possible price. Bless his Scottish heart.

The preparation for the next issue of RT is coming along and looking good.

Membership/Circulation
We’ve picked up five new members since last month.

The software search goes on for a COTS replacement package which can do the membership database job, at a reasonable price. MS Access appears to be the best-suited solution, and John is developing a test of this package.

By the next issue of RT, the plan is to have the whole membership portfolio handed over to the new minister.

In and effort to streamline the database process, John MacDonald suggested the re-assigning of old membership numbers to new members.  This was roundly and soundly shot down, stomped on, kicked, and beaten, in particular by the elder statesmen on the Exec.  There was a lot of passion and pride in those of us who are down in the low triple digit membership numbers, and a lot of reluctance to artificially aging our ‘newbie’ members.  Get some ‘time in’ first, kid!

Archivist
The Archives is still safe and secure at Mike Belcher's place.  Randy will be making the pickup of merch in the near future.

A load of stuff was picked up at George Hopp’s home by the Lutz consortium.  Apparently this could have been done in one carload if a certain brand-new member of the National Executive had been willing to sacrifice just a little, and walk home.

One hobby shop has jumped on the bandwagon and purchased six sheets of our last decal sheet for retail sale, and some of these have sold already.

Chapter Liaison
Lots of e-mail has been received - a good sign.

The current list of active chapters is still being updated, pending contact with some of the outlying areas of the empire.  Once completed it will be circulated to all.

Communications received at the home office show a tremendous level of approval, bordering on outright love, of our last decal sheet.

For future projects, at least one group in the field was offering money to help support the next project.  While being quite gratified at this show of support for national initiatives, the discussion came around to a decision that we would be better off by getting solid ideas and research support from the membership for future decal sheets.

The Minister had an informal meeting with the IPMS Toronto chapter.  It was a good dialogue, with the standard question being the big issue – when is the next RT coming?

Another proposal that came up from the IPMS Toronto meeting was a request for IPMS Canada to provide a free copy of RT in exchange for their regular provision of Scale F/X to the National Executive.  It has been a long-standing custom that the IPMS Canada Chapters producing a Chapter publication send courtesy copies to the National Executive.  However, this does not entitle the Chapters to receive a free RT in exchange, and it is going to stay that way.  It was again stated that we ask for very little from the Chapters to maintain their IPMS Canada status, and that the IPMS Canada members of a Chapter already receive an RT.

A brainstorming discussion ensued, centring on way to reach the national membership and otherwise foster good will with the Chapters and their members.  A revival of Chapter-Chatter (aka ‘Cha-Cha’), an RT Column, as well as website space were all thought to be the best ways of achieving these goals.

Webmaster
Graham has been working on mastering the intricacies of the IPMS Canada web page.  He needs more briefing info from Bob Mig, and a meeting must happen ASAP.

Graham’s first order of business will be to update the Charter Chapter listing and the Chapter contact information.

Jamie set a 26 Feb 02 deadline for the most urgent changes to take place on the Chapter Listing area of the web page.  This is the one part that has been causing us the most ill will with the field.

Jamie stressed the critical importance of timely replies and follow-up to e-mail enquiries.  For the recurring kind of enquiries, the ND suggested that any discussion area on the web page also incorporate an FAQ.

Special Projects
Randy distributed a draft copy of his info for the upcoming decal sheet.

The next retail decal will be a 1/48 version of one of our old 1/72 sheets. Bob Migliardi will dig out the old artwork and reformat it to Microscale’s printing standards.

Production details for the resin parts for one of the new sheets were discussed.
