National Director
Jamie announced that since the last Exec meeting Graham Mansell stepped down as Webmaster.  Steve Sauvé ‘volunteered’ to step up to the plate to take a kick at it.

Other than that, it’s been quiet since last month.  To quote the ND directly, “there’s been very little ‘nut mail’ lately.

No names, no pack drill, but we did get a letter from someone who wanted IPMS Canada to sponsor his immigration to Canada.  He is a plastics engineer and thought that our impressive corporate power might have been of some help with the process.  The ND will be sending a suitable reply, suggesting that this fellow might have better luck elsewhere.

RT Editor
RT 27/4 should be ready for the blues by the end of next week.

Jean Gratton’s contact gave us a good price for printing RT, and our current print run of 700-800 fits right in with his capabilities.

It was strongly suggested that we get some serious samples of work similar to RT, in order to make a proper judgement of the quality.  There are also technical issues to investigate like formatting, photo handling, etc.

The Editor still hasn’t bought his apparently important CD-burner yet.

We are looking at mid-May for the next RT stuffing and mailing session.

Treasurer
An impressive and complete financial statement was presented – the bottom line is that we’re still sitting about $7.8K to the good.  John offered an obviously well-prepared and well-rehearsed briefing to go with the statement, raising a few eyebrows amongst the more suspicious Exec members.

It was discussed and decided that a full financial statement would be tabled every three issues of RT.

John did an investigation and breakdown of potential postage costs for mailing our RT to the membership.  Right now an issue mails out at just under 100grams, and it breaks this barrier (increasing mailing costs dramatically) if we put as much as two extra sheets (like flyers) or a full decal sheet in the mailing envelope.

In the ‘Why Would Anyone Keep Track of This?’ Dept., John brought out archival mailing envelopes from many years ago, complete and stuffed with whatever RT was in vogue at the time.  He used these as test vehicles with Canada Post to check if RT had been gaining any weight over the years.  Apparently RT is doing much better than most of the Exec by staying as a lean, mean, modelling mag-a-zine.

John also did a breakdown of membership service costs, and after a lot of heartfelt discussion, it was decided that we must raise foreign (excluding USA) dues by $3.00, effective immediately.  At best, the foreign members’ dues just pay for getting the six issues mailed to them, and this does not cover the extra costs needed to run the Society.

Membership/Circulation
We picked up 31 renewals and 6 new members since last meeting.

Our old and new Circulators are happy with the transition process over to the new Minister.

Archivist
Nothing to report.

Just for fun, a copy of the complete IPMS Canada membership list for January 1967 was passed around for walk down memory lane.  And just to prove that we’re not a bunch of ‘les vieux pets’, not one current Exec member’s name is on that list.

Webmaster
With Steve just getting up to speed on the workings of the web page, not much new has been put in, although the critical Charter Chapter info updates have been completed.

Steve fielded a few ideas for discussion, and the technical merits and workability were kicked around.  Some ideas are feasible and others were declared feaseless.

With Jean Gratton’s help, all the dead links on the web page have been cleaned up.

Adding an ‘Articles’ section was discussed and thought to be a good idea.  To save re-typing, these will have to come from the Editorial Archives.  Steve will be asking the Editor for help on this.

It was discussed and decided that Steve would be the primary e-mail box handler, distributing incoming mail as needed.  John MacDonald offered help on getting set up to do this.

Back Issues
Lots of back issues have been sold over the past month.

The issue of pricing the few remaining bound volumes of RT was discussed.  The decision was to price them at $24.00 in order to move them quickly.  Such I deal!

Various marketing strategies were discussed as the best ways to keep the merch moving.

It was pointed out that T-shirts cost us a small fortune to mail out, at approx. $4.00 each.

To smooth out the administrative process, local deliveries of commercial sales of RT will cease, and they will be mailed out the same as the out-of-town customers.

Special Projects
The long-awaited battle royale to debate the colour details of one upcoming decal subject was put on hold for this meeting.  It was decided that final arguments will be presented at the National Director’s next ‘bulding session’ on 27 April.  There and then will the issue be decided.  For those that don’t know, a building session is more social event than serious attempt to finish a kit.  It is hosted at someone’s kitchen table whereupon a group of modellers pretend to make progress on a stack of half-built kits, but mostly kibbutz the night away, while enjoying a favourite social lubricant.  So instead of the tranquil setting of an Exec meeting, this will now be done where everyone’s got knives in hand and the beer will be flowing freely.  And we’re the brain trust of this organization…..

Based on the outcome of the debate at item 11.1, this particular subject will be a done deal, or it will be removed from the decal sheet, and a less controversial machine submitted in its place.

For the 1/48th version of the old 1/72 sheet, official photos will be identified, pulled and printed from the CF’s photo archives.  John MacDonald will do some investigation on the totem pole colours.  Steve will check into the official badge archives (there really is one!), to see what there is on this Sqn in WWII.
