National Director

(Note:  This point was revised in April 2003 after first being published here, to correct errors in the original wording) As mentioned at the last Exec meeting, a member from IPMS Buzz Beurling has  tried electronically to reproduce the colour chips from the long out-of-production IPMS Canada Canadian Colours Guide.  This issue was discussed in detail, and, for various reasons, it was decided that no formal recognition would be given to this website, although we applaud the effort that has gone into it.

We are ready to proceed with formally announcing the 'Best Canadian Subject' Contest, and as soon as material for the webpage is posted, Jean will do a mass mailing to the Chapters.

The trophy package for this contest will consist of 1st - 3rd place plaques, and it will be affordable in the long term, even if all the Charter Chapters were to partake in a given year.  An image of the winners' entries will be screened onto the awards before sending them to the Chapter for presentation.

This trophy package will also become out standard package for those Chapters soliciting support for their local contests.

The 111 Sqn decals are now for sale, as the advert went with the latest RT and will be on the webpage this week.

RT Editor

To collective 'oohs' and 'aahs', and even a solitary 'aaay!' (although that last one might have been just a suck-up to the Editor), it could be said that the new RT format looks pretty darned good.

Work has started on the next issue, and we'll be staying with the colour cover for a while.  It will be heavy on Cdn armour, with an amusing article that will be published on the webpage after it's been circulated in RT.

Jean
Gratton will be staying on for a while as Sid's co-Editor.  This marriage of mighty modelling minds looks like it's got the legs to last.

In talking to our new printer, we found we can add two colour pages to an issue of RT for about 1/3 more than the regular cost of printing the entire issue, so this is something we'd have to save for special occasions, like subjects with lots of colour on them, not, uh, grey airplanes....

Sid reports that the future articles situation is still looking pretty reasonable.  We're good for a couple of issues yet.

Treasurer

Coming up to the end of the volume year, John
announced "we're good" (he's not called the best colour man in IPMS treasurers' circles for nothin', folks!).

As the next issue of RT ends the Volume year, John has promised a full statement for us next time around.

Membership/Circulation

Debbie reported that 1
4 new members have joined since last meeting, and 6 renewals came in.  134 renewals were sent out with RT 27/4, so next meeting should be a big renewal month.

Debbie proudly reported that Randy's scheme to contact recently lapsed members netted us 6 more renewals.

Marketing

Jean is said to be in a 'transitional phase' at the moment, regarding his Marketing duties.

Randy will be sending out 111 Sqn decals for review in the next two weeks.

Jean will be soliciting the Charter Chapters for lists of local hobby shops that we might approach as being 'IPMS Canada friendly'.  The plan is to then explore possibilities of placing RT (now with a colour cover!) on their shelves as a product, in the hopes of drumming up more members across Canada.  IPMS Winnipeg take note, yes, we already know of one place for sure that we don't have to bother ....

If this works out, we will adjust the RT print run accordingly

Jean will be investigating placing IPMS Canada flyers in Cdn vendors' products, on a cooperative advertising exchange basis.

Thanks to Randy's regular purges that would rival Joe Stalin's best efforts, there's not much to archive at the moment.

Liaison

Chapter Charters
for 2003 are mostly mailed out by now.

The Secretary wrote down something about Chapter info. e-mail protocol, but the context is lost at this point.  Anybody remember what Jean was talking about there?

Webmaster

At the request of various Exec members, a couple of new items are being added to the webpage:

  •  a scrolling 'CNN' banner announcing lost members and that sort of thing,

  •  a 'Renewals Due' area will be added to the main page,

  • plus the P-40 decal advert,

  • plus Canadian Contest info, plus the online index is still a problem in progress,

  • plus consolidating all our merch on one page...

Is there no end to your needs?!?  He gives and he gives and what does he get back...?

Back Issues

Randy was queried if the current back issue listing for RT was current.  He will check and forward a new list to Sid and Steve as needed.

Special Projects

John will be doing some serious investigation into IPMS Canada possibly going to an online payment service, such as PayPal.

We are just about 'good to go' with the next decal sheet after 111 Sqn.  The instructions are out for final proofing and changes, then the artwork will be going to Microscale.
The pricing structure will be a two-tiered approach, similar to 111 Sqn.

Randy suggested that we electronically archive our product reviews on the website.  After some discussion, it was decided that this was a good idea.  Sid will be sending e-articles to Steve for inclusion on the webpage, after they've appeared in RT, or go straight to the web page for whatever reason.
