Old Business
Jamie
cited a number of very favourable comments received on the new colour cover
format for RT.
On
the other side of the coin, however, there were a number of sharp-eyed members
who suggested that we could further improve our product through more careful
proofreading and spell-checking. It was decided that the Editor would
send a PDF file (instead of hard copy) of the latest RT out to our
proofreader, to help speed up the process.
On
the shelves of the hobby shops that carry RT locally, the new format really
catches the eye. To help encourage non-members to consider the benefits
of joining IPMS Canada, the current commercial pricing structure will be
re-examined with an eye to raising the retail price of the magazine.

National Director
We're receiving lots of renewals, everybody seems to love the colour photos in
RT.
The ND recently went to Buffalo, NY, for a model show. While there, IPMS
Toronto member Bill Coffman spoke to Jamie about the letter sent to IPMS/USA
regarding us pulling out our support at their National Convention. Bill
went on to introduce Jamie to IPMS/USA President Dave Morissette and to VP
Jack Kennedy. After a very productive discussion, our American
counterparts generously offered to cover the sponsorship for the 'Best
Canadian Subject' award for the next three years, while at the same time
tracking contestant support for this award. After three years the award may be
retired if there's not enough interest in the subject. We may still contribute
our traditional pewter tankard to go with the award.
We
will be advertising this revived award on the IPMS Canada website, but we also
recognize that it's too late to start people thinking about building for this
particular award. 2004 in Phoenix, perhaps?
It was decided to hold off on the Canadian Content Contest until some
fundamental procedural and logistical problems are worked out.

RT Editor
A draft copy of RT 28/2 was shown around. Once again it looks good, and
we dare say, even more improved than the last two issues. Once a few more
reviews are put together, this one will be ready for the presses.

We're in a very nice position financially, and all the bills are paid.
What's up with that?

Membership/Circulation
We would like to have access to membership statistics that would show if our
Branch is trending in either growth or shrinking. We know how many
renewals we send out each issue, but there's no simple mechanism in place to
let us know what kind of return rate we're getting, how many new members are
joining, etc.

Marketing
To help increase awareness of IPMS Canada and its benefits, we will be seeking
out those local chapter members who don't mind jumping on the monthly soapbox
on the Society's behalf.
To help our local cheerleaders, extra copies of RT will be made available for
distribution to potential new members. And none of that old-fashioned RT
crap, we're talking the new primo colour cover stuff here.
It was noted that Jamie and Randy are now doing the bulk of the marketing work
while Jean gets deeper and deeper into Sid's dark world of RT Editing.

It was suggested that we explore ways of tarting up the webpage with a little
more pizazz and such. The Webmaster will take a look at increasing his
HTML skills and also seeing what good ideas can be lifted from other sites.

Special Projects
The final final proof copy of the next special project decal and colour
artwork were shown around to an approving Executive. After our research
assistant (Randy) gives it his official and final okey-dokey, it's off to
Microscale for printing.
Sid was shamed into proceeding post-haste with the resin portion of this new
special project.
The next special project was discussed and the possibility of it being a
freebie for IPMS Canada members was considered, with no final decision being
made at this time.
