This meeting was prefaced by a gathering at the South Ottawa estate of Steve Sauvé.
Access to the pool was granted to those so interested, followed by burnt
offerings of beef and beef-like substances on the BBQ.
The
Exec meeting was called to order at 1900 hrs, 16 July 2003, following a
lengthy discussion on low-carb diets, and how successful it has been for
several Exec members who wanted to downsize.

Old Business
Again
this month Jamie noted even more, very favourable comments received on the new colour cover
format for RT.
Responding
to our literate members in the field, the spelling in RT 28/2 has been
carefully proof-read by three Exec members, which should have combed out the
worst of the typos.
To
help get RT onto more hobby shop shelves and into the view of potential new
members, the extras from the 28/3 print run will be sent to 'IPMS-friendly'
hobby shops (read as: we're not trying to convert the ones that already hate our
organization, just trying to reach the ones who are currently
undecided). We will be soliciting our Chapter Contacts to see where
suitable targets might be.
A
related topic is commercial advertising. Nothing has been decided, and
it's still under exploration by Jamie and/or Randy.

National Director
Jamie extended his thanks to Steve for the BBQ and pool dip.
The
mail has been pretty tranquil this past month, with no big issues to report.
A follow-up to the issue of IPMS/USA
regarding the Best Canadian Subject trophy not being awarded (or not being
judged, we presume). Jamie will query known Canadian attendees at the
convention to see what was there that could have been judged. A letter
to IPMS/USA will be sent out.
Letters
were received from irate members who were unhappy with the lack of response
from HQ to requests for information. Jamie reiterated that we all must
be extremely diligent in replying to members, even if it's to say we don't
have anything to help them. Our prime focus has to be on the individual
members in the organization.

RT Editor
RT 28/2 has been mailed out and it was deemed to be an exceptionally
nice-looking issue.
Jamie
and Randy and beating the bushes for new writers for RT articles.
The
editorial union of Sid Arnold and Jean Gratton as co-Editors seems to be
working out.
For
some reason the long-awaited Zip drive for the Editor is no longer required,
net a savings of approximately $250 for IPMS Canada.

Membership/Circulation
With RT 27/6 we had 87 renewals and 9 new members join our ranks. With
RT 28/1 we had 66 renewals and 18 new members.
Debbie
would like to convert our ancient technology membership database to something
like MS Access. John says it a relatively easy export to software that's
been made this century (which begged the question, why didn't we do this
change before now?). Deb would like to have the file conversion
completed by the end of August 2003.
With
a printing of returnalopes coming up, it was suggested by Steve that we add in
a space for IPMS Canada Chapter affiliation, so that we can capture this data
to help with future planning for the organization. On its own this
process should take about one year to complete, which should cover on full
volume year of RT.

Chapter Liaison
Absent this evening.
With
Jean getting more involved in RT, we are looking at adding some new faces to
the Executive to help ease off some of the double-hatting the current members
are doing. Two names were floated and discussed, and Jamie was still
waiting to talk to one of the guys to see if he is interested in helping out.
The
role of Chapter Liaison seems to have gotten muddied with all the high-tech
communications at our disposal these days, so it might be in everyone's best
interest to redefine the job for whoever we can bring on board to help.

Special Projects
Since last meeting we have sold 27 copies of the new 111 Sqn sheet, 17 sheets
of Aces' Markings, and a total of 15 of the 1/72 Sqn sheets.
A final proof of the next special project decal and colour
artwork were again shown, and Randy submitted some notes back to Bob Migliardi
for final changes to the decals. Since printing is a six- to eight-week
process, this is our critical item to put to bed and sent to Microscale for
production.
A
pricing structure was discussed and it was decided that this new sheet was
going to be more in line with commercial decal pricing in order to generate
revenues to help fund other IPMS Canada projects.
The resin portion of the project was discussed and there is a
potential problem with getting the flat gizmos to sit on the curved surface of
the planned model. Randy and Sid will be conducting tests to overcome
the problem.
When
the resin issue is resolved, the quantity of resin gizmos to be included with
each sheet needs to be set in order for Sid to proceed. Is it based on
the number of sets of national markings included with the sheet, or is it
based on the number of colour schemes included, plus a spare set (just 'cuz we're
nice guys)?
With the release of the next retail sheet, the current price for the 111 Sqn
P-40E sheet will be increased substantially from its introductory price to its
full price.
A
revision to the postage cost structure will be investigated, with the goal to
have a single IPMS Canada Order Form on the webpage, and set charges for some
types of orders, such as multiple copies of a decal sheet, bulk orders, etc.
