Old Business

Jamie noted that our last Exec meeting was in August, but there were no minutes produced.  At this point the Secretary confessed to his sins and declared that the meeting notes had been misplaced somewhere at his home.  If and when they are found, minutes will be produced and published.

National Director

Jamie received another letter from a magazine publisher who was interested in getting IPMS Canada involved with the production of another Canadian modelling magazine.  A polite 'decline' letter will be sent out in response.

We received a letter from Alan Magnus in Regina regarding the requirements needed to maintain an IPMS Canada Charter Chapter status.  Jamie will be sending an e-mail to the effect that a Chapter can be as few as five members, three of whom (including the President) must be IPMS Canada members.

RT Editor

Due to pressing work requirements out of town, Jean passed over the material for RT 29/2 to Sid for completion.

Once again the article barrel is getting a bit empty, with an uncomfortable shortage of both aircraft and armour material.  Jean suggested that we examine some of the older issues of RT in a search for classic material that could be buffed up and re-presented to a newer modelling generation.  Seems like an idea worth pursuing and Jean will continue with it.

To help manage the RT production process, Jean was able to find a used P3-733 computer for a real good price (unknown at time of writing).  Mike Belcher, former RT Editor and current CEO of Belcher Bits was then kind enough to supply Jean with a 19" monitor that will complete the system.  The Exec's gratitude is extended to Mr. Belcher, and the bills will be handled by the Treasurer.

The RT quality control issues will be pre-emptively addressed with the printer as the next issue (29/2) is being passed to them for production.  This will hopefully keep the problems in the forefront of their thinking when they go to press.

The suggestion of going to a quarterly schedule for RT was fairly well received by our members in the field who took the time to contact us via the Yahoogroups discussion forum.  This has not gone beyond the discussion stage and a careful measuring of the dollar savings (in postage) will be weighed against a quarterly issue's increased workload.

Membership/Circulation

Absent, but Randy brought the info that with the mailing of RT 29/1 we sent out 95 renewals, with only 3 back as of this meeting.

This news generated a long philosophical discussion concerning the decline in membership, the shortage of RT articles, and the steps we might be able to take to rectify both situations.

To see what the members want and expect from membership in IPMS Canada, another survey is being considered.  Steve Sauve will dust off the old survey and trim it down to what we'd really like to know from the membership.

Webmaster

Member Dennis Weber of Edmonton has been in contact with the Webmaster to offer his assistance and expertise towards the production of web-based PDF versions of older (i.e., those not available as back issues) RT magazines.  Dennis sent along some really nice examples of what can be done, and the possibilities and storage and distribution problems are still ongoing.

Special Projects

Since the last meeting decal sales have been reasonable - 18 Mustang sheets, 6 P-40 sheets, 12 Aces sheets, 4 1/72 sheets, and 1 Luftwaffe Guide.

To help move the merchandise to the Chapters and save them money at the same time, we offered a deal for 40% off a minimum 10-sheet order to any IPMS Canada Charter Chapter.  Nobody took us up on the idea.
