New Business-National Director
After a long search and numerous interviews, Jamie hired on long time IPMS
Canada Gary Barling to take on the Chapter Liaison portfolio, effective 20 Feb
06. Gary brings a wide breadth of IPMS Canada Chapter knowledge to the
table and we are very pleased to welcome him to the table. Gary lives in
Petawawa, Ontario and will not be able to make too many Exec meetings in
person, but we are hoping that this new-fangled Internet thing will not just
be a passing fad and will allow us to keep in in good contact.
The 2006 Charter Chapter
Charters will be going out to the Chapters as soon as the new signatures and
the great seal can be affixed.
It's been a relatively
quiet couple of months for mail and e-mail. No nut jobs writing in, and
the always-entertaining Nigerian money scams have dwindled to a trickle (with
apologies to IPMS Nigeria)

RT Editor
For only $400 Sid finally acquired a new (used) computer to do up RT.
It's a P4, 2.6 GHz.... (yawn). Suffice to say it will do the job nicely
for a couple of years.
The next RT (29/6) will have two articles on the CT-114 Tutor, plus a
piece on the Centaur in the Cdn Army.
We need to put a reminder in RT to tell people not to renew until they get the
renewal card.
Jean Gratton needs to be
chased down to find out what happened to the DH Scale Modellers special issue
of RT. This needs to be passed on to Sid ASAP.

Membership/Circulation
We've received 21 renewals back from the 29 sent out with RT 29/5. We
also got four late renewals and picked up nine new members.
There was a long
discussion concerning the current costs of servicing our members. This
did not paint a rosy picture for the future, as Canadian, American, and
especially foreign memberships are all costing us more than we are currently
charging for dues. This is primarily because of the recent Canada Post
increases for mailing RT, and it is a 100% certainty that we will have to
raise membership dues across the board. John will be talking to Canada
Post to see if we have any options to cut mailing costs, but there will likely
be more to follow at the next Exec meeting.
Some ideas that we tossed
around to deal with the increased costs were:
-
raising
the shortfall through more advertising
-
RT
Chapter Specials could drum up
local advertisers
-
the
postal increases could price a paper-based membership out of the market -
could PDFs or CDs be a viable alternative?
-
use
the USPS as an alternate (lower cost) shipper

Special Projects
We talked again about producing CD-ROMs containing PDFs of extinct RT Volume
Years for sale to members and non-members. These are cheap to produce
but would require a very significant chunk of pre-production time in scanning
and layout. We will be contacting an interested member in Edmonton for his
inputs on the subject. Steve suggested getting scanning involvement by
soliciting the help other members across Canada. John will be checking
into security and copyright protection issues that may be employed to protect
our investment.
The 441 Mustang III decals are
being printed for inclusion as a 'freebie' with RT 30/1.
